I just finished your book, What Attorneys and Claims Adjusters Really Need to Know About Collision Investigation. You have created a superb reference book. I think that this book will make an excellent gift for my clients. It details when and why they should have a collision reconstructed.
You should consider marketing this book to the police arena. It would help the conscientious officer obtain more complete data so that their collision could be reconstructed.

Accident Reconstruction at Traffic Signal Intersections, long title, but worth the read! Authored by Darrin Marceau from the great state of North Carolina, this book is absolutely worth its weight in gold! OK, at today’s gold prices maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but then again, maybe not.
Mr. Marceau’s book deals with subject matter that has often been overlooked by collision investigators. Whether concerned with the perceived “complication” of these types of collision reconstructions, content with strong witness accounts of scene/signal conditions, or simply unaware of the issues at hand, Marceau’s well-written and easy-to-follow book takes the novice reader on a “journey of enlightenment” into the world of traffic signal engineering. The book provides an overview of the issues that separate collisions at signalized intersections from those occurring elsewhere, supplies a strong foundation for the methodology involved in traffic signal engineering and identifies the applications of these methodologies with real-world examples. The reader is then provided “practice problems” to work through, allowing them to gain the much-needed “practical application” aspect of learning often missing from other technical reference manuals. There is no doubt in my mind that everyone who purchases this book from Kinetic Energy Press will consider it a wise investment and a welcome addition to their collision reconstruction library.

My Department and I have been using a Total Station since 1997. Over the years we have upgraded our equipment and software and even added a second Total Station for our team. I had purchased the book Fundamentals of Forensic Mapping by authors Kent E. Boots and Joel Salinas and found it very comprehensive and informative. I felt it would be an excellent text for training purposes as well.
We recently upgraded our software for the two Total Stations to a current version of software and it was significantly different than our prior software. Thanks to the information in the Software chapter of this book, I was able to install the software on the data collectors and learn the basic operation of the software so we could use the Total Stations in our work. Without this valuable reference, I would probably still be trying to figure out how to operate the software. This text is a necessity for anyone using a Total Station for mapping a collision or crime scene.

Just a quick note of praise for the Kinetic Energy Press publication, Fundamentals of Forensic Mapping by Kent E. Boots and Joel Salinas. Happily I was one of first to acquire a copy of the book when it was first released some time back. Having taught others in the law enforcement community aspects of total station use and application for several years, I realized firsthand the need for a comprehensive, easy-to-read reference manual to address not only the nuts and bolts of basic total station operation and data collection, but also the foundational issues associated with the technology. With the publication of this manual, that is no longer the case!
Kent and Joel have done an outstanding job of identifying the issues; both large and small, from technical to anecdotal, to assist every user (even those who are “a little long in the tooth”) in the proper use and application of total station hardware and software as an integral part of their forensic investigation process. Whether the goal is the development and implementation of total station use or the refinement of skills already in place, every user will benefit from adding this book to their reference library.
